Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry searches for tourist missing after flood in Nepal

A Kazakhstani woman went missing after crossing the China-Nepal border as part of a tourist group. Her whereabouts are currently unknown, Kazakhstani diplomats said.

According to preliminary data, the woman crossed the border from Nepal into China as part of a tourist group .

«The whereabouts of our citizen are currently unknown. A search for the missing woman is underway. Kazakhstani diplomats continue to cooperate with local authorities,» Zhanbolat Ussenov, an official spokesman for Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry, told Kursiv.media.

Other circumstances of the incident, including exactly when the tourist group crossed the border and under what circumstances the Kazakhstani woman went missing, have not yet been disclosed.

A catastrophic flash flood occurred on Aug. 26 in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, along the China-Nepal border. The flooding destroyed houses, roads, bridges and other infrastructure, killing hundreds of people and leaving many others missing.
