Kazakh Railways, Huawei team up to develop digital infrastructure

Artificial intelligence, LTE-R and new cybersecurity systems are set to be introduced across Kazakhstan’s railway network. Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the national railway operator, and Huawei have agreed to develop the sector’s digital infrastructure.

Yelzhas Otynshiyev, KTZ chairman of the management board, met with Leo Chen, Huawei’s senior vice president and president of enterprise sales. The parties reviewed the results of their cooperation and identified areas for further work.

Connectivity and real-time operations

One of the key projects will be the deployment of LTE-R, a specialized wireless communications network for rail transport. It is expected to ensure reliable data transmission and improve the coordination of train traffic.

KTZ and Huawei also discussed establishing a data processing center, which is planned to be equipped with modern computing solutions, including Huawei technologies for analytics and artificial intelligence systems.

Another initiative will be the launch of the Intelligent Operations Center (IOC), which will enable real-time monitoring of technological processes, data visualization and efficient management of the railway network.

A dedicated cybersecurity center

The parties also agreed to pay particular attention to protecting KTZ’s digital infrastructure. This includes the creation of a specialized cybersecurity center to counter modern information threats.

KTZ noted that its partnership with Huawei would enable the company to draw on international expertise and modern technologies to accelerate its digital transformation.
