President Aliyev, PM Pashinyan meet, discuss Azerbaijan-Armenia peace

On Aug. 31, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The leaders discussed progress in normalizing bilateral relations and implementing previously reached peace agreements.

The parties highlighted the historic significance of the Washington Peace Summit of Aug. 8, 2025, the joint declaration signed in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump, and the initialing of the Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Trade cooperation and the TRIPP project

The talks highlighted the first tangible results of the peace process. In particular, exports of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia have begun, along with the transit of grain and other goods from third countries through Azerbaijan.

«The leaders discussed further practical steps related to the implementation of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), one of the important outcomes of the Washington Peace Summit, and underlined the significance of connectivity projects along the TRIPP,» the statement said.

The parties also welcomed direct contacts among business communities, parliamentarians and civil society representatives.

Border delimitation and confidence-building

The Azerbaijani president and Armenian prime minister praised the work of the state commissions on border delimitation and reaffirmed the need to continue their work.

Following the meeting, Aliyev and Pashinyan agreed to support direct bilateral contacts to further consolidate lasting peace, normalize interstate relations and develop transport and logistics corridors in the region.
