Specialists from Kazakhstan’s National Scientific Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics have arrived in Tajikistan to share their expertise. In the capital, Dushanbe, Kazakh surgeons performed a series of minimally invasive procedures and provided consultations to local patients, the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan said in a statement.
The surgeons focused primarily on three areas: spinal surgery, foot and ankle orthopedics, and arthroscopy.
Spinal surgeries
The most complex procedures involved the spine. In one case, surgeons Murat Baidarbekov and Seidaly Abdaliyev operated on a patient with degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis accompanied by severe pain. They performed decompression of the nerve structures at two levels — L4-L5 and L5-S1 — and implanted a transpedicular fixation system and interbody cages.
Another procedure was performed on a 13-year-old patient with a complex spinal deformity.
Foot and knee surgery
Kairat Tazhin, a well-known Kazakh orthopedic traumatologist, operated on a 24-year-old patient with a severe injury that had resulted in grade 3 post-traumatic arthrosis of the ankle joint and a severe foot deformity. The patient underwent triple arthrodesis to correct the deformity and stabilize the foot.
Another patient with ankle instability underwent a Watson fusion procedure. The minimally invasive surgery was performed by Nurzhan Assanov, head of the Department of Arthroscopy and Sports Injuries. He also performed two arthroscopic knee procedures: a medial meniscus repair and capsular ligament reconstruction.
«In just two days of work in Tajikistan, Kazakhstani specialists conducted more than 100 consultations and performed approximately 10 surgical procedures,» the Ministry of Healthcare said.
