East Kazakhstan region to deploy country’s first pediatric care neurosurgical robot

A high-tech, AI-powered neurosurgical robotic system, the Remebot RM-200, worth 433.5 million tenge (approximately $946,000), is set to be installed at the Mother and Child Care Center in Ust-Kamenogorsk, the East Kazakhstan region’s Governor’s Office reported.

The system will enable doctors to perform highly complex, minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures on children from several regions of the country.

The Governor’s Office said that the Remebot RM-200 is the first neurosurgical robot in Kazakhstan and Central Asia to be used in pediatric care.

«The system combines neurosurgical navigation and stereotactic surgery technologies. It allows for planning the procedure in advance, creating a three-dimensional model of the brain and determining the optimal surgical trajectory with high accuracy,» the statement said.

With the introduction of the robot, the care center will be able to expand the range of procedures it performs. These will include stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), placement of depth electrodes to identify the foci of epileptic activity, stereotactic procedures and minimally invasive biopsies of deep-seated brain tumors.

The procedures the center provides are available to residents of the Abai, Pavlodar and East Kazakhstan regions.

The Governor’s Office noted that the acquisition of the high-tech equipment was made possible through Samruk-Kazyna’s charitable activities.
