FIA inspects Almaty venue ahead of Central Asia Drifting Cup

Representatives of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) have arrived at the Sokol International Circuit in the Almaty region, where the FIA Central Asia Drifting Cup will be held from Sept. 25 to 27. The event will be the first official FIA regional drifting tournament in Central Asia.

The track gears up for a historic tournament

Inspectors are assessing the complex, the track and the readiness of its infrastructure. In addition, specialists are conducting technical inspections of the participants’ cars.

Particular attention is being paid to the safety of the cars and their compliance with FIA technical regulations. The federation published the official sporting and technical regulations for the tournament in July.

The FIA Grade 2 Sokol International Circuit near Almaty is hosting the event — its first international drift stage.

What awaits drivers

The tournament program includes practice sessions, qualifying and tandem battles in an elimination format. During qualifying, judges will assess the drivers’ line, drift angle, speed and style. The best drivers will compete in tandem battles, with each participant taking turns as the lead and chase driver.

Entries closed on Sept. 1, with no limit on entries. The individual and team winners will be determined based on the final results.

The FIA previously noted that the new tournament should help develop drifting in Central Asia, raise sporting and organizational standards and attract new drivers to international competitions.
