An 82-year-old man died after an argument over a sunbed at a beach near Athens, and a 76-year-old man has been arrested, Euronews reported.
The incident took place on Sunday morning at Akti Vouliagmenis, a popular beach in Greece’s Attica region. According to preliminary information from local authorities, the 76-year-old man got into an argument with the 82-year-old man over a spot on the beach.
The dispute reportedly turned physical. The 82-year-old then collapsed, apparently after suffering cardiac arrest. A nurse working at the beach tried to resuscitate him using CPR and a defibrillator before he was admitted to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police arrested the 76-year-old on suspicion of causing fatal bodily injury. The exact circumstances and the cause of death remain under investigation.
Disputes over beach space are not uncommon in Greece, where crowded beaches and long-term sunbed reservations have drawn complaints in recent years.
