Tesla begins Semi electric truck deliveries

Tesla has begun delivering its Semi electric trucks, as the automaker expands production of the heavy-duty vehicle at its facility in Sparks, Nevada, Reuters reported.

The Semi electric truck, first unveiled in 2017, is designed primarily for long-distance freight transportation. Tesla says the long-range version can travel up to 805 kilometers on a single charge, while the standard version offers around 523 kilometers. Both measurements were made with the trucks loaded.

Among the companies receiving the trucks are well-known brands such as PepsiCo, DHL and US Foods. Tesla also recently secured an order for 2,500 Semis from a coalition of major cargo owners that includes Microsoft and PepsiCo.

Tesla has not disclosed current production volumes or pricing for the Semi. However, the company has said it plans to eventually produce 50,000 trucks annually at its Nevada facility.

The Semi has faced repeated production delays since its introduction. Tesla began limited deliveries in the U.S. in late 2022, with PepsiCo among its first customers. The company is now working to increase production as it seeks a larger presence in the commercial trucking market.
