Kazakhstan dredges Aktau Port to boost cargo throughput

Kazakhstan has launched dredging operations at the Port of Aktau on the Caspian Sea, deepening the seabed to six to seven meters. The work aims to increase cargo volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor, the Ministry of Transport reported.
The project involves dredging about 1.3 million cubic meters of material from the seabed, increasing the water depth to six to seven meters.
The dredging is expected to boost the port’s capacity and increase cargo volumes along the TITR by up to 30%. It is also expected to reduce shipping costs by 10%-15%.
The project is expected to contribute to attracting investment in port development and improving navigation safety. The contractor has already developed a work schedule. Regular project meetings are held to address current issues and coordinate the actions of those involved. The dredging is planned to be completed by the end of the year.
Earlier reports said that Kazakhstan would explore the possibility of building an oil pipeline along the Caspian seabed.
