Artificial intelligence is coming to Kazakhstan’s outpatient clinics: testing has begun for a smart system that detects the risk of heart failure at an early stage. Most importantly, it requires only an electrocardiogram.
According to the Ministry of Healthcare, a neural network analyzes the data and alerts doctors to patients who require an emergency heart ultrasound scan. The main advantage is that clinics do not need to acquire expensive equipment, as the system easily connects to existing machines.
«Our goal is to detect the disease as early as possible, before it leads to complications and hospitalization. AI will help doctors identify risks more quickly and refer patients for the necessary examinations in a timely manner,» Deputy Minister of Healthcare Yerbol Ospanov said.
He stressed that doctors will make the final call on the diagnosis.
The new technology will primarily be used in outpatient clinics, but only after the system proves successful in a pilot project. Specialists will then assess the AI model’s accuracy and the feasibility of its further use in healthcare facilities.
«Before such solutions are widely rolled out, reliable data on their effectiveness and safety are needed,» Ospanov said.
Several parties have joined forces on the project. The technology is being introduced jointly by the Ministry of Healthcare, the country’s leading cardiologists from the Society of Heart Failure Specialists of Kazakhstan, and domestic IT company CMC Technologies, with support from AstraZeneca Kazakhstan.
