2026 Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to Anne Carson

The 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Anne Carson. Born in Canada in 1950, Carson is a distinguished poet, essayist, and classicist who built a profound foundation in Ancient Greek early in her life.

Her genre-defying works, most notably the verse novel «Autobiography of Red,» brilliantly weave classical mythology and Hellenic literature together with modern sensibilities and raw emotion. Through her innovative translations and «fictional essays,» she has fundamentally reshaped contemporary poetry, earning prestigious honors like the T.S. Eliot Prize and the Griffin Poetry Prize.
This year, leading contenders and favorites for the literature prize, according to prominent literary critics and prediction markets, included Haruki Murakami, Chinese experimental writer Can Xue and Australian avant-garde writer Gerald Murnane, among others.

However, our analysis — at least in the case of the Peace Prize — shows that multiple signals pointing to a strong chance of winning, or even leading in the number of nominations, do not guarantee that the Nobel Committee will award the prize to a particular individual.
