Astana IT University students have developed CardioScan, an online platform that helps identify signs of cardiovascular diseases, Vechastana.kz reported.

The project was presented at the AI-SANA exhibition for student projects from all over the country.

How CardioScan works

The platform combines a portable device that tests the heart’s electrical activity (electrocardiogram) with a mobile app.

After a test, the system transfers all heart performance data to artificial intelligence, which analyzes the heart’s electrical signals and prepares a medical report for the doctor.

Moreover, the system can use previously taken electrocardiogram images, analyzing the data without needing new tests.

According to Artem Pinigin, a third-year student at Astana IT University, the model was trained on a database of 33,000 images and electrocardiograms.

Professional support

Specialists reviewing CardioScan have found it very useful. The North Kazakhstan Regional Cardiological Center, for instance, has supported the project as the developers’ team continues to polish the platform at Astana IT University.

Currently, they plan to expand the database used for model training. This is expected to make electrocardiogram analysis more precise and expand the list of pathologies whose signs the system can detect. This would require close cooperation with various medical organizations and clinical testing.
