Real Madrid’s striker Kylian Mbappé has become the youngest player in UEFA Champions League history to reach 100 appearances. The Frenchman played his 100th match at the age of 27 years and 298 days, according to Squawka.

Lionel Messi previously held the record. The Argentine was 28 years and 84 days old when he made his 100th Champions League appearance. Mbappé thus broke the record by almost ten months.

Mbappé reached the milestone against Roma on matchday two of the tournament. He equalized in the 25th minute to make it 1-1. Roma later took a two-goal lead, but Real Madrid scored three times after the 81st minute to secure a 4-3 victory.

Mbappé also became the eighth player to score in his 100th Champions League appearance. Cristiano Ronaldo and Toni Kroos were among the Real Madrid players who had previously achieved the feat.

Following the match in Rome, Mbappé’s Champions League statistics stood at:

  • 100 matches, 72 goals;
  • AS Monaco: 9 matches, 6 goals
  • Paris Saint-Germain: 64 matches, 42 goals
  • Real Madrid: 27 matches, 24 goals

With 72 goals, Mbappé ranks fifth among the Champions League’s all-time top scorers, excluding qualifying rounds. He overtook Raúl, who scored 71 goals, in the match against Roma. The players above him on the list are Cristiano Ronaldo (140), Lionel Messi (129), Robert Lewandowski (109) and Karim Benzema (90).
