Mitsubishi has unveiled the ASX VR-e, an electric crossover whose top-of-the-line GSR trim is more powerful than the most potent production version of the Lancer Evolution. Equipped with two electric motors producing a combined 459 horsepower, the vehicle can accelerate from zero to 100 kph (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds, according to Carscoops.

All-wheel drive and 459 horsepower

The Mitsubishi ASX VR-e is based on the Foxtron Bria, an electric car developed in Taiwan with input from Italian design firm Pininfarina. All versions are equipped with a 57.7-kilowatt-hour battery.

The LS, Aspire and Exceed trims feature a single 229-horsepower electric motor mounted on the rear axle, delivering power to the rear wheels. These versions accelerate from zero to 100 kph in 6.8 seconds.

The top-spec GSR adds a second motor at the front, providing all-wheel drive and a combined output of 459 horsepower and 700 newton-meters of torque.

For comparison, the British-market Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-440 MR special edition produced 440 horsepower. The electric crossover surpasses that figure, although its all-electric powertrain and crossover format may not appeal to die-hard fans of the legendary Evo.

Mitsubishi has yet to disclose the ASX VR-e’s driving range. The vehicle supports DC fast charging at up to 134 kilowatts and AC charging at up to 6.6 kilowatts.

Interior features and warranty

The cabin features a 15.6-inch central infotainment screen and a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster. The Exceed and GSR trims also come with a panoramic glass roof, a power-operated tailgate and a 12-speaker audio system.

The ASX VR-e will launch first in Australia, with pricing expected to be announced later in 2026.

The vehicle comes with a five-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty, which can be extended to 10 years or 200,000 kilometers if the vehicle is serviced at authorized Mitsubishi dealerships. The traction battery has a separate warranty covering eight years or 160,000 kilometers.
