A new pharmaceutical plant worth more than $86 million will be built in Almaty, Svetlana Kil, head of Nobel AFF JSC, announced at a cabinet meeting.
As she noted, once the plant is fully operational, it will produce 40 internationally recognized drugs, focusing on cancer and blood disorder treatment.
«The new plant will allow us to expand local production. During the first phase, from 2030 to 2033, we will focus on producing finished medicines, transferring technology and setting up full-cycle manufacturing,» Kil said.
The second phase, scheduled for 2034–2036, will focus on producing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), helping Kazakhstan gradually reduce its dependence on imported raw materials.
Kazakhstan has already started local production of three cancer drugs from Roche — Kadcyla, Herceptin and Perjeta — as well as AstraZeneca’s Forxiga. The country has also signed an agreement with Sanofi to produce vaccines locally.
«Initial production is expected to begin in 2029. By 2032, we plan to produce 23 of the 40 drugs. In 2030, the plant will expand into new therapeutic areas, including rheumatology, immunology and pulmonary arterial hypertension treatment. By 2032, we also expect to launch six biological drugs: five for cancer treatment and one for blood disorders,» Kil said.
According to her, working with international partners and training local specialists will help Kazakhstan develop a skilled workforce for its pharmaceutical industry.
Nobel AFF is part of Turkey’s Nobel Pharmaceuticals, founded in 1964. The company operates five manufacturing plants: three in Turkey, one in Kazakhstan and one in Uzbekistan.
