For more than two months, Kazakhstani doctors fought to save the life of newborn Aslan Aliyev. Born in Thailand, he was flown to Almaty on a charter flight in critical condition. Over the following weeks, pediatric surgeons treated his intestinal obstruction, while neonatologists helped him learn to breathe and feed independently.
Decisions that saved the child’s life
In May, the one-and-a-half-month-old infant was flown to Almaty with severe complications and an extremely low birth weight. He was immediately admitted to the neonatal anesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive care unit at the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery (SCPPS).
During an examination, doctors discovered a concealed intestinal perforation that required emergency surgery. Despite the complexity of the case, pediatric surgeons successfully performed the operation.
Thanks to comprehensive treatment, advanced medical technology and the professionalism of the medical team, the child’s condition gradually stabilized. Throughout his hospitalization, he received round-the-clock care from neonatologists, anesthesiologists, pediatric surgeons and nurses.
Baby continues to recover
During his treatment, Aslan gained 1,200 grams and now weighs 2,500 grams.
He is breathing independently, receiving natural nutrition and his bowel function is recovering, allowing doctors to discharge him home. His rehabilitation will continue at home, while medical specialists will continue to monitor his condition.
