Kazakhstan reports growth in medical tourism

The number of foreign patients seeking treatment in Kazakhstan reached 80,000 in 2025. In response to growing demand, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports jointly developed a 2026-2028 medical tourism development plan.
«Currently, ten Kazakhstani healthcare organizations hold international JCI accreditation, which is considered one of the most authoritative standards in the global healthcare system,» the Ministry of Tourism and Sports said in a statement.
The ministry noted that to advance this area, the Ministry of Healthcare and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports are jointly developing a roadmap for medical tourism for 2026-2028.
In particular, the document outlines measures aimed at promoting Kazakhstani healthcare services in foreign markets, developing infrastructure, improving service quality and expanding international cooperation.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports expects that the development of medical tourism will not only boost service exports but also attract investment in the sector, ultimately creating new jobs and strengthening Kazakhstan’s international image.
In 2025, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the Ministry of Health to negotiate agreements with neighboring countries to attract foreign patients to Kazakhstan for medical treatment. At the time, the president stressed that Kazakhstan was interested in expanding international cooperation, exchanging expertise, and promoting the transfer of medical technology.
