In Shymkent, a local oncology center successfully performed the first laparoscopic pancreatoduodenal surgery on a patient with a malignant pancreatic tumor. This means that city residents will now be able to receive high-tech medical care without having to travel elsewhere.

According to the Ministry of Health, this type of surgery is one of the most complex and high-tech interventions in oncological treatment. Therefore, experienced oncology surgeons from the National Scientific Medical Center in Astana came to Shymkent to share their expertise with local specialists. They held a master class for local surgeons.

«The unique feature of laparoscopic pancreatoduodenal surgery is the absence of a traditional large incision. The surgery is performed through several small punctures using specialized laparoscopic equipment,» the ministry said in a statement.

The method allows for more precise and safer tumor removal, reduces postoperative pain and accelerates patient recovery.

The ministry also reported that, as part of the master class, laparoscopic surgeries were performed on three patients with malignant tumors of the pancreas and adjacent organs.

Officials believe that this exchange of experience will help improve local surgeons’ skills and allow them to perform similar operations in Shymkent on a regular basis.

«The introduction of the new method will allow city residents to receive high-quality specialized medical care without traveling to other regions of the country. This will improve access to oncology care and ensure that patients receive timely, high-quality treatment,» the ministry emphasized.
