Starting Jan. 9, 2027, direct flights will connect Almaty and Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific, the territory’s flag carrier, is set to operate three flights weekly. Kursiv LifeStyle looks at the details of the new route.

Flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on Airbus A330-300 aircraft. The flight from Almaty is scheduled to depart at 9:50 p.m. and arrive in Hong Kong at 7 a.m. the following day. The return flight will depart at 4:25 p.m. and arrive in Almaty at 8:30 p.m.

The new route will restore a direct air link between Almaty and Hong Kong after a long break. Passengers will be able to connect through Hong Kong International Airport to cities in mainland China, as well as destinations across Northeast and Southeast Asia, Oceania and beyond.

To mark the launch of the new service, passengers from Kazakhstan will receive a 15,000-tenge (about $33) discount on tickets from Almaty to Hong Kong and onward across the airline’s network. The offer is valid through Sept. 30, 2026, and applies to flights from January through September 2027.

Direct flights between Almaty and Hong Kong have been under discussion for more than a year. In 2025, Kazakhstan was already in talks with Hong Kong airlines about launching passenger services.

Air Astana operated the Almaty-Hong Kong route from 2012, but the service was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Previously, Kursiv.media reported that FlyOne Armenia entered Kazakhstan’s market.
