Kazakhstan to produce Indian tractor brands in $120 million deal

Kazakhstani industrial company SP BKM signed an agreement with India-based International Tractors Limited to assemble and produce tractors. The agreement is worth $120 million.

During the Kazakhstan-India Business, Trade and Investment Forum, SP BKM and Indian agricultural machinery manufacturer International Tractors Limited reached an agreement to assemble and locally produce Sonalika and Solis tractors in Kazakhstan. The arrangement includes supplies, assembly, a gradual increase in local content, sales and service of tractors and other agricultural machinery.

SP BKM also signed an agreement with Indian defense startup Big Bang Boom Solutions Private Limited to cooperate on defense technologies, domestic security and dual-use solutions. The agreement aims to develop mutually beneficial projects.

The business forum drew more than 110 participants from Kazakhstan, including around 65 companies from the engineering, agricultural, food and light manufacturing, pharmaceutical, construction, oil and gas, IT and logistics sectors.

Kazakhstan plans to expand trade with India and increase exports. Some 95 commodity categories have been identified as having export potential worth $313 million, including products from the metallurgy, chemical, food, construction and engineering industries.

Sonalika Tractors is India’s third-largest tractor manufacturer, with annual production of around 300,000 units. The group exports tractors and agricultural equipment to more than 150 countries, including 35 European nations.

Big Bang Boom Solutions is an India-based defense-tech company headquartered in Chennai that develops counter-drone systems and electronic warfare equipment.

SP BKM is owned by businessman Marat Yessimseitov, who runs businesses under the TransTechMash LTD umbrella. The group operates across the railway, defense, automotive and hospitality sectors, including Terra Motors and Holiday Inn Express Astana-Turan.

Yessimseitov is also the founder of BESQARU, a company that produces wheeled and tracked armored vehicles.
